A typical Bakken or Three Forks well in North Dakota or Eastern Montana costs between $6 Million and $9 Million dollars to drill and complete (frack). The hydraulic fracture treatment/completion costs approximately $50,000 per stage with these wells averaging 30-40 stages per well. This equates to $1.5M to $2M for the fracture treatment alone.
Included in the drilling costs are the daily cost of the rig (around $30K-$40K per day) as well as all the materials needed to drill and complete the well. These materials include steel casing, cement, calcium chloride, other chemicals, barite, and diesel fuel.
